First Night at UWM

Well yesterday (8/27/08) was the move-in day for many of my friends attending UWMilwaukee. It was great to see more of my friends and their new living quarters for the next year. It looks like it is a great place, but I’m very pleased to know that the rooms at Seattle Pacific University are larger. Alison and Rachel both have singles which means no roommate. I think it was a wise choice, but I am still looking forward to having a roommate. Nathan was supposed to have a roommate, but it seems that his roommate decided not to go to Marquette leaving Nathan with a bigger room all to himself.
Although we had trouble finding things to do during the day at UWM, it seemed like our first night would prove to be an interesting one. As we sat in North Tower’s 16th floor we saw a lot of loud (drunk) people go into one of the rooms. After about the third wave of people who went into the room we decided we should see if they will let us in. We knock on the door and when the door opens you could smell the alcohol waft out into the hallway. We ask if there’s a party inside, but the girl just looks around at us. Finally content with her investigation she grabs us by the collars and pulls us in. Inside looked like a mix mash of drunkenness and confusion. We didn’t know what was going on in one of the beds, but it seemed like a guy was trying to piledrive a group of girls. Wasn’t as bad of a party as we presumed, looked kinda lame actually. Once we were all in the hallway, the girl that dragged us in began to introduce herself to everyone. She was a lil creepy with a hint of crazy. Slurring her words she went up to each of us in the cramped hallway. Standing much closer than necessary she would say “Hi, I’m Alicia.” But it sounded much more like, “Eye, I’mm a leachhh-uhh.” With her arm crooked up almost against herself and her hand pointed at the ground for a miserable handshake, we quickly decided this was not exactly the place we were looking for. After Alicia made her rounds she stumbled into the dorm room we had a pleasant talk with another girl, Brenna. But not too long into the conversation Alicia came out… and introduced herself… a second time. So we all took the crooked handshake and made our way out of the suite. A few people from the party followed us out into the common and with our new group of people we decided to see who else wanted to join in. We ran from floor to floor seeing who else was just wandering the tower with no party to go to. On one floor we saw a suite door and dorm room door open so we all wandered in and saw no one. We stood there for about twenty seconds complaining about how stupid it was to leave your dorm room open when a big black dude in just his shorts comes out of the closet or something and just stood there dumbfounded, wondering why there were ten people in his room. We all bolted to another floor laughing our heads off. We lost all the friends that were with us, but later found them on the smoke deck. We sat there, once again wondering how to rid us of this boredom. Chris asked, “What is there to do?” And Kevin, the one drunken friend we picked up from the party, just blurts out, “Fucking shit.” Although he did not realize how funny it was, it quickly became the quote of the week. After the laughs died down, we decided to play Apples to Apples so we headed up stairs, made popcorn (which burnt and set off the smoke alarm), I won Apples to Apples (Oh yea!), and Alicia found us (Oh no).
